Project management
We act as a temporary construction department for customers and represent them in projects of all kinds. Our approach to project management is innovative, digital, cost-efficient and – thanks to the Cradle to Cradle® design principle – sustainable: from the definition of project goals and project execution to completion and operation. We combine our construction expertise with our powers of persuasion and mediation skills to meet project goals to the specified quality within budget and on schedule. This makes us the first point of contact for our customer and the companies involved in the construction process. Our profound understanding of agile methods and Lean principles enables us to maintain a constant overview. We know what the project needs and involve appropriate experts as required from the entire Drees & Sommer network.
Areas of application
You coordinate and organize the planning and construction of buildings in line with the customer’s goals. Your knowledge of construction engineering makes a significant contribution to the success of the project and, as a project leader, you coordinate the internal and external project participants. In addition to having specialist knowledge and taking a process- and solution-oriented approach, you have especially strong social skills.
Our infrastructure projects focus on different aspects of engineering, such as roads, railways, and bridges. As a project manager, you are in direct contact with the principals and respective specialist engineers, and coordinate internal and external project participants. The key qualities needed to perform this role are construction and engineering expertise, a process- and solution-oriented approach, and strong social skills.
As a user project manager, you help the project lead integrate and implement all user-specific requirements for the construction project. You are involved in developing the organizational, communication and decision-making structures on the user side independently of construction project coordination. You also ensure that the user’s cost and schedule targets are met. Your knowledge enables you to support the team responsible for managing planning and execution. In this way, you ensure that user and general requirements for the operational phase are also met. You advise users on demand-optimized, cost-efficient planning and execution – thus improving their level of acceptance of the project. In the event of variations, you evaluate and channel the necessary changes in collaboration with the user project lead. This minimizes the potential for conflict and disruption of the overall project.
What happens if a client wants to use BIM for planning and construction? As a BIM manager, you advise them on defining both company-wide and project-specific requirements. As you have extensive BIM expertise, you are able to continuously check whether the agreed BIM requirements are being met. Together with project management, you manage the project using model-based information and ensure that the planning and coordination processes are transparent.
Integrated factory planning combines production and industrial construction planning and uses new technologies and approaches to create manufacturing solutions that deliver sustainable, versatile and highly cost-efficient production facilities. As a project manager for Integrated Factory Planning, you are a member of an interdisciplinary team acting as the interface between production and building design with the task of ensuring that cost, quality and schedule goals are achieved as the project progresses towards the Start of Production (SoP). In addition to having extensive process knowledge, you are enthusiastic about the management of complex projects. You take an independent approach to work, and have analytical skills and a responsible communication style.
As a cost manager, you use methods, procedures and tools to record and clearly visualize project and construction costs. You prepare costings from the inception of a project through to the final costing as the basis for the construction budget. You coordinate and consolidate costs from other project participants and support the project through execution to settlement. Your key tasks include identifying and assessing risks, and preparing forecasts. You use powerful tools that support execution and form the basis for key performance indicators and benchmarks.
