PLANNING

As a planner at Drees & Sommer, you design and plan campuses, buildings, work environments and technical infrastructure for a diverse range of sectors and uses. You are responsible for developing high-quality holistic solutions that offer our customers added value. Dreso is renowned for outstanding expertise and leading digital planning processes. Our modular planning approaches are a good example – we use them to reduce the complexity of construction projects and cut costs. Our planning role contributes to projects that show what we stand for: Blue Buildings and facilities planned by us feature smart networking and are energy self-sufficient, emission-neutral, healthy, integrated and flexible.

Areas of application

In large-scale planning projects, we take on the role of overall coordinator with the aim of achieving full harmonization of spatial and functional interfaces between trades. Depending on the size of the project, this role may be the responsibility of a single planner or of an entire team. At Dreso, we use agile methods and digital tools to coordinate, communicate and track planning progress – because efficient overall coordination is a prerequisite for successful, cost-efficient projects.

Planning projects generate huge amounts of data. This data must be structured and merged at a central point to enable coordination between trades and technical models. You work on large-scale projects to prepare multidimensional data structures for geometric data, technical properties, production process timelines and cost data – for the client, project management and planners as well as for overall coordination.

As an architect, the integrated planning approach is central to your work. From the very start, your designs take into account all of the principal’s requirements and the resulting specifications for the individual trades. This forms the basis for overall functional and spatial coordination of a project. A modular planning approach is essential for integrated overall quality management. We assess the quality of a design based on its esthetics and the degree to which it meets user requirements. Our expertise in digital planning with BIM enables you ensure a high level of planning quality even in detailed planning.

As a BSE engineer, you plan building services equipment across all trades – from the initial concept to invitation to tender and contract award. Our teams combine many years of experience with carefully designed planning processes, modular planning methods and the use of modern BIM tools. This allows you to provide clients with comprehensive advice and ensure professional goal-oriented 3D planning. Our goal is to provide building services equipment that meets the highest quality standards and offers cost and schedule certainty. We consolidate all these elements into a robust invitation to tender and contract award process.

Whether you are dealing with high-rise buildings, factories, airports, train stations or bridges – structural engineering forms the basis for design in every construction project. As a structural engineer at Drees & Sommer, you implement innovative projects using a design that is best suited to the materials used. Our focus is on developing load-bearing structures using state-of-the-art digital tools and planning processes. We provide our customers with competent, independent advice that always takes the ecological impact of our work into account.

If you work in building physics, you ensure compliance with statutory sound and thermal insulation requirements. You also provide the planning basis for climate-friendly construction and a high level of user amenity. You act as the interface between planning for the various trades and help to ensure the correct execution of planning by the contractors on site.

In facade planning, you develop facade concepts in close coordination with the client and the architect. Your task is to develop and optimize the architect’s facade design to ensure cost-efficiency and correct function from the very beginning. At Drees & Sommer, our planning is product-neutral and system-independent, and we are able provide our clients with competent advice in every planning phase.

Job perspectives in planning

Moderate. Conceptualising. Planning building services for large projects. Taking responsibility for future topics. Being creative. The work in the Planning job family is multifaceted. What exactly does it look like and what should new colleagues bring to the table? Our colleagues tell us themselves and provide insights into their day-to-day work.

I plan building services equipment at Drees & Sommer – so heating, cooling, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing and fire suppression systems. During my job interview at Drees & Sommer Switzerland, I was told that we handle the biggest projects around and that this was an incredible opportunity both to advance in the sector and to take on responsibility. My promotion from a specialist planner for ventilation to team leader for the largest projects in Germany has certainly proved this to be true.

Nicolai Peglow Team Lead

I am a team leader in the area of structural engineering at the Frankfurt regional office. The special thing about Drees & Sommer is that we are helping to shape the construction industry’s role for society as a whole. We design buildings so that they can be used beyond their initial lifecycle and that also allow materials to be separated and sorted by type at the end of the building’s service life.
